The two sides of this screenfold are very different in terms of both style and content. The Reverse (pages 42-84) is concerned with a single narrative, the biography of the eleventh-century Ã’udzavui conqueror Lord 8 Deer “Jaguar Claw.” In contrast, the Obverse (pages 1-41) is an “anthology” of several different stories and genealogies, each with its own distinct “hand”—compare the small, compact images of narration on page 19 with the large scale of the genealogical drawings on page 35. Due to its anthological nature, the screenfold can be easily divided into a series of self-contained sections, the contents of which are outlined below. The two sections excerpted for inclusion in Mesolore are found on pages 14-22 and 23-35 (Figure 4).
